Parish Staff

Rev. Ronald R. Cellini Pastor.

Rev. Christopher Smith is the Parochial Vicar and the Hispanic Minister. He is a native South Carolinian (Greenville) and was ordained for the Diocese of Charleston on 23 July 2005. He is the youngest of three boys. Raised as a Fundamentalist Baptist, after a brief sojourn in Anglicanism he read his way into the Catholic Church at the age of 13, received into the Church at St Mary’s, Greenville. He went to Christendom College in Front Royal, Virginia, and graduated with his BA in philosophy summa cum laude in 1999. After a brief experience at a monastery in Rome, he lived in Rome as a layman studying at the University of Santa Croce in Rome and working in the Eternal City during the Jubilee Year. While in Rome he met Bishop Baker of Charleston and was sent to the Holy Father’s seminary, the Pontifical Roman Major Seminary at Saint John Lateran in Rome, for priestly formation. Ordained to the diaconate by Camillo Cardinal Ruini in October 2004 at the Lateran, he completed his studies with a License in Dogmatic Theology summa cum laude from the Gregorian University with a thesis entitled Virgo Sacredos: The Priesthood of the Virgin Mary on the relationship between Mary and the priesthood, both ministerial and lay. After Fr. Smith’s ordination to the priesthood, he was assigned to his home parish of St Mary’s, Greenville, as Parochial Vicar with special duties to St Mary’s School as well as chaplain to one of the largest communities of Latino Catholics in the state. He then served as Administrator pro tempore of the parish before his assignment to Beaufort in June 2007. Fr. Smith has many interests, which run from modern languages to history. A member of the Church Music Association of America, he studied Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony in college and has an amateur interest in every kind of music from bel canto opera to Latin pop music. He’s an avid Clemson Tiger football fan, and enjoys kickboxing and lacrosse, as well as the more tame hobbies of movies and books. Fr. Smith is also a member of the Third Order of Canons Regular of Premontre, popularly known as the Norbertines, and is particularly fond of Counter Reformation saints like Philip Neri and Francis de Sales.
Deacon Michael Beeler is the Social Outreach Minister for St. Peter’s. In addition to providing emergency food and assistance for the poor, he assists the parish priests, takes the Eucharist to the hospital, assists with liturgical arrangements, and supports the parish office.
Deacon Bill Lacombe is the Director of Religious Education. He will coordinate PSR and Sacramental preparation along with other youth and family ministries. Born and raised in Corning, New York, Deacon has spent the majority of his adult life in the South, especially the Lowcountry. His education includes a B.A. from St. Leo University, and two Master’s Degrees in Secondary Education and Educational Administration from the University of South Carolina. He was ordained a Deacon in September, 2002 and lives in Beaufort with his wife Wendy and their five children.
Deacon Jim Hyland is the Deanery Coordinator of Prison Ministries for Catholic Charities. Deacon Hyland will assist at St. Peter’s on an as needed basis.
Deacon Jay Harbeck is the Pastoral Associate at Holy Cross Mission. He assists the priest at Eucharistic celebrations, preaches, baptizes and performs weddings, and gives religious instruction.
Mike Sammut is the Youth Minister. Mike was raised in Glendale, AZ (home of the 2008 Super Bowl). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Design & Master of Architecture from Arizona State University. He also holds a Basic Youth Ministry Certification from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. He has volunteered in Youth Ministry for the last 3 years in Arizona & South Carolina. Mike enjoys anything outdoors, particularly camping and trips to the beach. He looks forward to meeting the youth of our parish.
Maria Carrera is the front office Receptionist. She answers the telephone, handles mass intentions, sorts the mail, prints all of the church publications, makes copies and provides information to anyone requesting it.
Cecilia Collins is the Finance Administrative Assistant. She is responsible for offertory contributions, Upon This Rock pledges and the Parish Manager's assistant.
David Hilton is the Maintenance Supervisor. David is a native of Oswego, NY, has resided locally with his wife and daughter for over ten years. He has an extensive background in construction and management. He looks forward to serving the needs of St. Peter's Parish.
David and Catalina Ponce are a part of the Maintenance Staff and are responsible for maintaining the parish and the school.
Brenda Stauffer is the Parish Bookkeeper. She is responsible for accounts payable and other day-to-day financial operations.
May Inglis is the Pastor's Assistant/Ministry Liaison. She assists the pastor and handles parish registration and data system management, sacramental records and is the parish contact for weddings.
Deacon Ed Peitler is the Family Life and Counseling Representative for St. Peter’s parish. Deacon Peitler will concentrate his attention on families, especially married people and fathers. Deacon Peitler currently offers counseling services to the parish and his focus will expand to weekend retreats and workshops. You may contact Deacon Peitler by e-mail or by phone (843-384-3967).
Gary Rakestraw is the Music Director. He handles all aspects of our music, including the choir, funeral, weddings and special programs. He is a native of Bluefield, West Virginia. He has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with choral certification and organ as performance major, earned a M.Ed. from the University of South Carolina and holds a diploma from the American School of Piano Tuning. Gary builds and maintains pipe organs for many churches in the Southeast.
Connie Wegmann is the School Bookkeeper. She is responsible for accounts payable and receivable, and other day-to-day school office matters.
Karen S. Widenhouse is the Parish Manager. She oversees the administration life of the parish, working in conjunction with the staff and ministry leaders to fulfill our mission statement.
Regina Wypychowski is the Bereavement Coordinator for St. Peter’s. Ms. Wypychowski meets with the family of the deceased to console, pray and plan for the Vigil, Liturgy and Committal Rite. Ms. Wypychowski also provides funeral planning should a parishioner want to make prior arrangements. She coordinates with the Pastor first, and then acts as his liaison with the family, funeral home and church office. As a member of the Columbarium Committee, she is familiar with St. Peter’s Columbarium and will assist with questions and planning.
Ashley McAuliffe is the Bulletin/Website Design Editor. Ashley is a native Texan and has worked as a financial analyst for the Federal Government for 15 years. She is married and has two children.
